Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a modern, retro-style beat ’em up with innovative mechanics much like Streets of Rage 4. It has the best aspects of similar games and is great for those who just want to play an old school arcade game or those who have a higher need for in-depth game play.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Review
This new TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge game is an action-packed adventure that will have you fighting your way through hordes of enemies. But is it any good? Read our review to find out!
As a huge Ninja Turtles fan, my expectations were high and they met me at every reveal. The game gave me a blast from the past, but it also brought in retro beat ’em up fans, which are really rare anymore.
Graphics
The first thing you’ll notice about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the graphics. The game looks fantastic and really captures the look and feel of the original cartoon. The turtles themselves are especially well-animated and look just like they did in the show.

The gmae often referenced different episodes of the Turtles franchise, and even referenced old arcade games. The graphics in this game are excellent. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the characters and backgrounds are all well-rendered. The animation is also top-notch, and the game runs smoothly.
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge includes small as well as elaborate references. It’s very fun to look at small details like stage decoration to fully appreciate the game. Boss fights are a highlight of the game, adding to its unique quality and charm. There are a few graphical glitches here and there, but nothing that significantly detracts from the overall experience.
Story
Story mode presents the player with a new fleshed-out experience, which also has different options for up to six players. Compared to arcade mode, which caters to classic gamers with limited continues and a super bar, this mode is more appropriate for those who enjoy manga and anime.
You’ll be spending most of your time fighting enemies, and the combat is fast-paced and satisfying. There are a variety of different enemies to fight, and each one requires a different strategy to defeat. You’ll be able to level up characters after defeating certain enemies, and unlock combo moves.
In addition to the main story mode, there are also a number of side missions to complete. These range from simple fetch quests to more complex missions that will test your combat skills. Completing these missions will earn you rewards, which can be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades.

The game is also chock-full of secrets to find, and you’ll want to explore every nook and cranny to find them all. I love the difficulty in these missions on hard mode! These give me a nostalgic challenge from an old arcade.
Gameplay
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge takes the action from previous games and makes it more complicated. With improved combos, players will have the opportunity to make up their own moves too.
In the game, the turtles can dodge, use three different super moves per turtle, can grab and throw enemies, taunt to gain super bars quickly, and do team attacks. The game takes inspiration from the many popular beat ’em up games. All the including characters have a standard combo string with one of three evasive maneuvers.
Combat in these fighting games goes deeper than they seem. You can dodge cancel moves into other attacks and OTG, which is hitting knocked-down opponents off the ground. Doing moves like this not only gives you more mileage when it comes to damage, but also shows how deep the game can go when you begin to string together moves.
After fighting an opponent, the player finds out how well they performed during their last battle. If you press X and Y together on the score screen, a new mode called Survivor Mode is activated where your opponent’s health isn’t triggered. This allows you to observe how well you did against your selected opponents.
Multiplayer mode

Shredder’s Revenge is special because of its multiplayer mode. You can play the game with up to five other friends or family members of yours. They’ve got different deals and players. You’ll unlock co-op mechanics with your team of green machines if you join them up. Those mechanic will make your voice bounce off the walls with anticipation every time you execute them.
As you can revive and share health with teammates, the multiplayer mode takes on a new experience. There are different team attacks available. If you can play them game with five friends, it will be hell of a fun.
How Long is TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge?
It takes around two hours to complete the normal difficulty story mode playthrough of the game. You will find yourself spending much more time, however, if you try out all of the challenges and different modes.
Audio
The audio in Shredder’s Revenge is also top-notch. The music is catchy and upbeat, and the sound effects are all well done. The voice acting is also excellent, and the characters all have distinct voices.
Verdict
Overall, I would definitely recommend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge to any TMNT fan out there. The game is a solid beat ’em up with great graphics, an interesting story, and plenty of replay value. While the combat can get repetitive at times, it’s still enjoyable enough to warrant repeated playthroughs. If you think retro games are too shallow or you’re looking for a fun brawler to play with friends or on your own, this is definitely worth checking out.
