The Ascent Review

The Ascent, the surprising indie blockbuster, received its first paid DLC pack today, but if you were looking for a plot extension, I’m sorry.

For £3.99, you can get the CyberSec Pack, which includes two new weapons: the NEWT MGL grenade launcher and the RECOIL burst rifle, a new tactical: THE GR00P CLUSTER GRENADE, four new pieces of armour, and four new animated weapon skins.

I can’t say I blame you if you’re feeling underwhelmed.

The Ascent CyberSec Pack Trailer:

To sweeten the deal, The Ascent is getting a free update today that adds a fresh new transmog feature that allows Indents to modify their appearance to match the aesthetic style of any armour in their inventory by spending a nominal price at the Stylist.

More is on the way, with a post-launch schedule that includes one more upgrade before the end of the year, followed by a free update and a paid DLC pack in 2022.

The Ascent is a cyberpunk-themed action role-playing video game. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One on 29 July 2021. It was developed using Unreal Engine 4 by a team of 12 people and is Neon Giant‘s debut in the industry.

We told that the game clearly is a lot of fun when not hindered by technical difficulties and it seems to be running fine on the Xbox Series S/X as well as the PC in our review. Read the Ascent review here.
