PlayStation Showcase Recap: Sony Announced God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 and More

After months of expectancy, Sony’s PlayStation Showcase in September was a hit. A total of more than a dozen highly anticipated games for the PS4 and PS5 were showcased in just under an hour, as well as several surprises and plenty of trailers.

Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine, and God of War Ragnarok’s first gameplay reveal was one of the highlights of the show.

God of War: Ragnarok Officially Revealed

According to Sony, the sequel to last year’s hit God of War will be called God of War: Ragnarok. They didn’t mention when it was going to be released.

After the events of God of War: Ragnarok, Kratos and Atreus are still at odds. To Atreus, being a Loki and having “giant heritage” means a lot. In spite of the danger, Atreus faces, Kratos wants to protect him from those who would do him harm, such as Freya and Thor.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PS5 in 2023, according to Insomniac Games. The first gameplay trailer indicated that Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be facing off against Venom in Spider-Man 2.

Candyman actor Tony Todd will voice Venom in addition to returning voice actors Yuri Lowenthal (Pete Parker) and Nadji Jeter (Miles Morale).

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Among the best Star Wars games, Knights of the Old Republic is also a favorite of many gamers around the world. Lucasfilm and Aspyr are bringing a PS5 exclusive remake of the classic Xbox game from 2003 to the PS5.

Former Knights of the Old Republic team members are working on this new remake, along with industry veterans.

Marvel’s Wolverine Announced

Insomniac Games, the studio behind Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, has revealed that it is working on Marvel’s Wolverine for the PlayStation 5.

Marvel’s Spider-Brian Man’s Horton and Cameron Christian are directing the new game, and Insomniac’s goal is to “not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Lost Legacy Remastered Coming to PS5 and PC

Both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Lost Legacy’s remastered version are coming to PS5 and PC but no release date yet.

Project Eve, A Hack-and-Slash Title Announced

One of the most exciting new gameplay trailers for Project EVE has been released, featuring a ton of hack-and-slash action that looks absolutely stunning in motion. Eve, a survivor of a paratrooper squad deployed from the Colony, must fight through powerful enemies with new comrades in Project Eve’s near-future setting.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Gameplay and Release Date Revealed

Here’s a look at the “epic settings” that make up Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. The event will also include an “interactive tabletop zone, which players can explore as they discover dynamic encounters and traverse between all key locations. Old school J-RPG fans, we see you.”

To further differentiate the game from Borderlands, players will have the option of creating a “multiclass system that lets you mix and match six unique character skill trees, all with their own awesome abilities.” Additional customizability will be available.

Forspoken Trailer Showscase

This week’s gameplay trailer for Forspoken, which will be available on the PS5 in Spring 2022, showed off Dragons and Magic, as well as story details. New footage of Frey’s journey into the dangerously beautiful world of Athia has been revealed.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction Gameplay Trailer

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction will be released in January 2022, and this showcase gave fans a taste of the action they will encounter when fighting off the Archaean threat.

Alan Wake Remastered Coming to Playstation

Alan Wake Remastered was already announced, but we now have our first look at gameplay and a release date of October 5, 2021.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Expanded and Enhanced Delayed to March 2022

The PS5 upgrade (and presumably the one for Xbox Series X/S as well) was originally scheduled for November 11, but has now been pushed back to March 2022. It was nice to see the game in action, though.

The standalone version of GTA Online will be available to all PlayStation 5 players with PlayStation Plus for the first three months following launch.

Gran Turismo 7 Release Date Announced

Gran Turismo 7 will officially be released on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 22, 2022.

Tchia Is a Game That Lets Your Soul Jump Into Animals

Aside from being inspired by New Caledonia, Tchia allows you to “Soul Jump” into any physical object or animal in the world, each with its own set of controls and abilities. A Ukulele will also be available to Tchia, the main character, who can use it to influence the world and the story.

Ghostwire: Tokyo New Trailer But No Release Date Yet

While we haven’t seen Ghostwire: Tokyo in a while, this PlayStation Showcase gave us a fresh look at the supernatural thriller but provided little new information.

  1. God of war Ragnarok is going to be epic, I so much love the trailer and the new interactive elements that have been added. I love how arteries have grown significantly since the hame of 2018. this game is also going to be another award winner. But I am very disappointed at their depiction of thor as fat blubber.
