Overwatch 2‘s release date has yet to be determined. However, some people will be able to get their hands on it next spring, so it may not be all that far away. Blizzard has confirmed that the next season of competitive Overwatch League play will begin in April of next year. They have also stated that the season will be played with an “early build” of Overwatch 2.
Overwatch League Date Confirmed
“I’ve seen a lot of speculation regarding a 2022 start date for OWL,” Overwatch League VP Jon Spector said in a Tweet. “We can confirm that our plan is to begin next season in April 2022. We will share more details about 2022 roster construction timelines soon and more info generally on our 2022 season as we get closer to April.”
Overwatch 2 was announced at BlizzCon 2019, and its release date has been uncertain since then. OWL season 5 will be played on an “early build” of Overwatch 2, an Overwatch League representative confirmed to Kotaku. Its PvP design changes are a big deal for competitive players and Overwatch League pros. Overwatch 2 matches will be 5v5 rather than 6v6, and teams will only get one tank, which naturally made some tank players nervous when it was announced.
Blizzard denied all the rumors about Overwatch 2 in past. For now Jon Spector’s tweet is the most reliable source for Overwatch 2 release as the 2022 OWL season will be released closer to April. Although Blizzard hasn’t made an official announcement about the Overwatch 2 release date, this news suggests that it’ll arrive in the middle of the year 2022.
