Even though the holiday season is in full flow, Mihoyo, the creator of Genshin Impact, has been busy revealing what’s in store for the action-next RPG’s big update. The release date for Genshin Impact update 2.4 has been set for January 5, and we now know about a new place named Enkanomiya, new characters Shenhe and Yun Jin, and the Lantern Rite event.
Enkanomiya, the ruins of an ancient underwater nation buried underwater and shut away under Inazuma for thousands of years, sounds like a rather creepy new spot to visit. It’s a massive floating island situated beneath the sea that’s continually being ravaged by the Abyss and now sits in ruins, previously home to the Watatsumi Island’s ancestors.

There are no days or nights in Enkanomiya, so you’ll have to figure out how to get to an ancient ‘sun’ built by the people who once lived there, known as the Dainichi Mikoshi, while solving riddles and learning about the new area’s secrets. Bathysmal Vishaps – crafty foes that can team up and “take advantage of their surroundings,” as Mihoyo describes in a news release – and The Abyss Lector: Fathomless Flames are also challenging new enemies. This opponent is capable of launching pyro attacks with delayed bursts of damage that bypass characters’ shields.
The five-star Shenhe, a polearm user who wields cryo power and boosts the cryo damage her allies deal out, is one of the new characters entering Genshin Impact with 2.4. She also has an elemental skill that allows her to increase the damage of adjacent friends’ elemental skills, burst damage, or normal, plunging, and charged attack damage.
Meanwhile, Yun Jin is a four-star polearm user with geo vision, which enables her to “boost her allies’ normal attacks based on her defence and the variety of visions in the player’s party.” Players will have another chance to recruit characters Xiao, Ganyu, and Zhongli in their own event wishes with the upcoming update.
We’ll see the Lantern Rite go live with 2.4 to ring in the new year. For the in-game festival, Liyue Harbour will be crammed with booths, games, vendors, and other activities, with prizes including 10 entwined fortunes, a chance to get one of the eight free four-star Liyue characters, and a new dress for Ningguang called Orchid’s evening gown. This year’s event will also provide players with the option to assist Ningguang and some locals in rebuilding the Jade Chamber.
On January 5, 2022, the Genshin Impact update 2.4 will be released.
