With 10 million players stepping into Playground Games’ stunningly rebuilt Mexican terrain in its first week, Microsoft has declared that Forza Horizon 5 has had the greatest launch of any Xbox title in the company’s history.
In a tweet (below), the official Forza Horizon Twitter account announced that it was the biggest launch for a game in Xbox history, implying that it has also shattered the records for Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Studios games.
Prior to the announcement, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said that the game had the most successful launch day of any Xbox Game Studios title ever. In its first week, the open-world racing game attracted over 4.5 million players, with peak concurrent player counts more than three times those of its predecessor Forza Horizon 4.
Forza Horizon 5 was published under Xbox’s famous subscription service Xbox Game Pass, just like all other Xbox Game Studios games, allowing users to play the game for free from the start.

While some have questioned Game Pass’s financial feasibility, Spencer recently stated that the platform is proven to be “very, very sustainable.” Those who have already signed up for the program will certainly be pleased with the announcement, especially if it proves to be the case in a year when Microsoft itself announced a slowdown in subscriber growth.

Playground Games has announced that it will continue to add components to Horizon 5 that will promote inclusion and make the game more accessible to a larger group of players as the game continues to shatter new records. Horizon 5 is planned to have an on-screen sign language interpreter in a future update, in addition to the game’s present accessibility features.
